WARWICK SPORTERS TEE OFF

A field of 66 teed off on Wednesday (9/11) in conditions that were sunny and surprisingly, rain free. Although the players had to deal with some windy conditions it was a pleasant change,

Con Seibel played the conditions best and posted an excellent score of 46 points to claim victory and the winner’s spoils. Sporters was kindly sponsored by Betta Home Living, Warwick.

Some of the group, less than kindly suggested the winner may have put his card from the previous week together with this week’s card to come up with that score. (Why are people so unkind – especially fellow golfers). I understand the stewards however did conduct an inquiry.

Following a countback Bob Lester (39) was declared the runner up and claimed the voucher while Paul Dautzenberg(39)as relegated to the rundown and received a ball. Others to share in the run down were Peter Walsh (38) and all those on 37 points including Peter Tomkins, John Urwin, Bruce Howells, David Hynes and Ian Skillen.

Darrel Bain had a nice collect at the pro pin at the 13th ($25). Others sharing in the spoils were Keith Clarke ($15), Josh Manwaring ($10) and Paul Dautzenberg ($5).

Those tasting success with NTP were Charlie Morrison (5th), John Porter (7th) Terry Griffiths (9th), Doug Wilson (11th) and the 16th A Skinner.

The Sponsor of last week’s Sporters was Sporters President Terry, Terry is currently holidaying in Victoria (we hope he has taken his water wings). The latest received indicates that the 36 holes he played at Rye would not have beaten Con Seibel’s score last week. You can run Terry, but you can’t hide those scores.

Volunteers are an important part of every organisation, and the Golf club is no different. If anyone has an hour or two to spare on Monday mornings the club’s Greenkeeper Shane would love to see you in the machinery shed.

He will happily give you instructions on what is needed to help in keeping our course in good playing condition.

TASTE OF SUMMER AT RISDON

Shooters from the Southern Downs Rile club were treated to their first taste of summer last Sunday at Risdon Range. The weather conditions just doing enough to catch out the unwary participant at the 400 yard mound.

It was business as usual for Dave Taylor and Richard McKillop in the standard and open classes with both adding weekend victories to their list of recent achievements although some scores were not as high as we have seen in past weeks.

There was a larger than normal field in the sporter/ hunter class last weekend and it was Nick Davies who had had an excellent shoot to more entries this week with Nick Davies having a fine shoot to take out that division.

STANTHORPE SPORTERS BACK IN BUSINESS

Sunday morning delivered an ideal start to Stanthorpe Sporters. A gentle breeze and sunshine and cloudless skies drew a few extra faces out onto the course for the nine hole competition with the back nine in play. – Stanthorpe Sporters were definitely back in business.

Three players returned the best nett of 24 in Sunday’s round. After a tense cut of the cards it was Ivan Juriss who prevailed and claimed the win. We have been tipping Dick Hilton to figure on the podium but on Sunday he was pipped at the post by the cards and forced to settle for the runner’s up spot. Stewart Rayner the third player in the cut collected the first run down of the day.

Mark Lynam was a few shots back on 29 and claimed the second run down. Matt Waterworth returned the Best gross score of 41 for the round. This could have been even better but for a few wayward shots.

There were two pin shots on offer for the nine holes but only one successful taker. Matt Burgess played a great tee shot at the 12th hole to land close to the pin, the subsequent putt going in for a birdie. The 17th was unclaimed.

This week Sporters will be back to the front nine on Sunday morning at 8am. Next Sunday is back to the front nine and play to begin at 8 am. There is an open invitation for everyone to join Stanthorpe Sporters for their nine hole romp on Sunday mornings.
