Triathlon returns on Australia Day

It's triathlon time again.

The Annual Australia Day Triathlon returns today (Thursday) after the 2022 event fell victim to the scourge of the COVID cancellations.

Co-ordinator Craig Magnussen said this year marks the 10th year of his involvement and after last year’s cancellation it is proving very popular.

“We expect to finish with between 100 and 150 competitors when we get to start time,” he said.

“We have received some nominations from visiting competitors and although this event is pretty casual some of the more serious competitors use this race as a training event or springboard for more serious events.”

The Triathlon will follow the format of previous years. The program for the Under 12’s event is a 100 metre swim at the Stanthorpe Pool, followed by a four klm bike ride and finishes with a one klm run.

Competitors in the Open and Teams event do a 400metre swim at the pool followed by a 10klm bike ride and a three and a half klm run.

Registration, bike racking and a compulsory race briefing will take place from 7.30am.

The under 12’s division starts at 8am sharp and the Open division at 9am.

There will be a BBQ operating for spectators and those who have worked up an appetite around Quartpot Creek.
