Redbacks finals bound

A comprehensive 121 run win has seen Redbacks secure the Warwick Cricket Association minor premiership for the second year in a row.

Redbacks proved too strong for Sovereign Animals in their final fixture of the year, ending the season with eight wins and finishing 10 points ahead of their rivals.

They lost only two matches and there were two games with no result due to wet weather.

Although the minor premiership was a given, there was plenty to play for on the weekend with teams vying for a place in the finals.

At Slade Oval the game between Maryvale and Wheatvale finished in a draw. After winning the toss Maryvale was dismissed for 157. Wheatvale were anchored on 157 at the end of their overs. The draw allowed perennial finalists, Maryvale to sneak into the top four. A situation that looked early in the season.

The Warwick Hotel Colts found the form they have been missing for most of the season in their final game to score a good win over second placed Vic Hill.

Colts, premiers in 2022 slipped down the ladder this season and have been relegated to Reserve grade.

In the first round of the semi-finals this weekend Redbacks play Vic Hill at Slade Oval on Saturday.

The winner securing a place in the 2023 grand final on 4 March.

Allora and meet Maryvale on the turf at Queen’s Park on Saturday. The loser will be eliminated, and the winner will play the loser of the major semi-final in the Preliminary final.

In the Reserve grade semi-finals Wheatvale take on Colts at Mayhew Oval. The winner of this game progresses to the grand final. The loser will play Sovereign Animals who the following weekend.

The cricket action doesn’t end there this weekend. Warwick will host Lockyer in the final of the Dud Davis Shield on Sunday at Warwick headquarters, Slade Oval.
