The Allora and District Campdraft Association annual Campdraft has raised just under $3000 for Lifeflight and helped out the local school which ran the canteen thanks to a large contingent of competitors and even more spectators.

Held over Easter at Allora Showground, the event, which is not for profit, proved a big attraction.

Campdraft spokesperson Sally Keyness said with strong support from local Allora, Warwick and district businesses and invaluable local cattle donors, the event was a big success.

She said well over 200 competitors took part in the competition across eight categories with competitors coming from around the local area and Darling Downs.

“However, we do take competitors from as far away as Beaudesert and Dalby,” she said.

“It was hotly contested, it was wonderful. We had more than 1300 first round nominations and we were able to successfully fit in around 830 first round nominations.

“We got a lot of spectators, being over Easter we are lucky that people are around and want to see their family compete. Our grandstands were filled it was such a nice day and we had quite of lot spectators. We had a lot of people come from town and from away to watch to watch family and friends, that was really nice. I think we did a record number of meals on both Friday and Saturday night.”
