The Winners of the Southern Cross Bowls Club Open Fours Carnival last Sunday were Wes Smith, Elana Scott, Dale Callaghan and Duck Coleman.

CARNIVAL TIME AT THE CROSS

It was Carnival time at the Southern Cross Bowls Club on Sunday. Teams from Ipswich, Texas, Inglewood, Tenterfield, Clifton, Tannymorel, Stanthorpe, Warwick, and Warwick East joined players from the Cross for the club’s Open Fours Carnival.

The carnival made possible thanks to the generous sponsorship provided by the Warwick Credit Union and Matt’s Mowers and More.

The overall winning team was the combination of Wes Smith, Elana Scott, Dale Callaghan and Duck Coleman.

The runners up were Dave Smith, Steve Jolly, Nev Richardson and Nev Morris.

The team of Pat Walker, Ralph Tate, Al Buse and Kev Mooney collected the first round winner’s prize.

Andy Imhoff, Desley Kehl, Garry Death and Robert Kehl picked up the prize for the second round winners while the honours in the third round went to Joe Torrisi, Marion Skaines, Geoff Davis and Geoff Creighton.

There was also a selection of great raffle prizes donated by Bunnings, Supercheap, Olsen’s Produce, Warwick Watchmaker and Jewellers and Hynes Newsagency up for grabs.

Sophia Holland is probably making good use this week of the firepit and wood she won in the raffle.

Russell Bean, Pat Walker, Dale Callaghan, Wes Smith and Joe Torrisi shared in the remainder of the raffle prizes.

The team behind the scenes at the Cross once again did a fantastic job. The combination of good weather, plenty of fun, good food and excellent comepitition made for an excellent day for everyone involved.

The District Sides competition wrapped last Saturday. The men’s district side improved on their 2022 performance. The team would do better if more players were available to participate. Understandably many players cannot afford to take the necessary time off work. On the final day of comepitition the sides were graded on based on their performance over the previous three days. With the teams meeting players of roughly equal ability, the Southern Downs District team’s results improved significantly. Perhaps administrators of these events could learn from these results.
