MAIDEN WIN FOR AVDYL

It was a chilly start for the Stanthorpe Sporters group as they gathered at the Stanthorpe Golf Course prior to teeing off on the front nine for their regular Sunday competition. Although it was cold there was not too much frost which allowed the field to get away pretty much on time.

Howard Avdyl is a relatively new to Sporters and has been playing competition for only a few weeks.

The steady improvement in his game was rewarded with a win in Sunday morning’s round. His winning score, nett 22.

John Rawlings played a steady nine holes to return the next best (nett 25) and claim the runner’s up spot.

Matt Burgess finished the round with the nest gross score. Burgess needing 39 strokes for the nine holes. It is a score that would have been good enough for a win on any other day, but a very low handicap after his win last week put paid to that.

The younger of the Burgess brothers, Andy, almost matched Matt’s score. His round of 40 just one more than his brother.

Andy received some compensation when he collected the only pin shot on offer – the par three third.

Sporters play again next Sunday morning. The back nine will be in play and as always there is an open invitation to join the Sporters group. Tee off at is at 8am and of course that will be dependent on Mr Jack Frost.
