The Warwick Hockey Association’s junior teams have been doing the association proud in the past few months with both the Under 13 boys and girls putting big performances at the recent state titles.

The Under 13 boys were fourth in the state titles in Cairns at the start of the recent school holidays according to association spokesperson Sarah Monk.

“The U13 Boys were a fantastic team of boys who represented our association at the recent state championships in Cairns,” she said,

“We had 11 players from Warwick, two from Ipswich and on from Rockhampton.

“The boys played four games in the starting pool coming away with a four-one win against Cairns Three, one-all draw against Gold Coast, one-all draw against Townsville Two and Two-all against Brisbane Three.

“We then moved in to Pool C, we played Townsville One, losing five-one, and a two-all draw against Toowoomba Two.

“We played Brisbane Three again in the third v fourth place match.

“Brisbane won the game three-one.

“We placed fourth overall out of 12 teams in Division two. Warwick scored 12 goals.

“We unfortunately had some injuries occur in our second last day with one player ruled out for the remainder of the tournament.”

Monk said all the boys all put exceptional effort into the championship.

“I am so very proud of their achievements,” she said.

“We were the smallest association at the championships and I can say we played with the biggest heart.

“The team played extremely well throughout the tournament. I cannot wait to take the team away again in 2024 wherever that may be.”

Meanwhile the Under 13 girls travelled to the Sunshine Coast for their tournament with coach Dolly Hoffman impressed with her young charges.

“Wow what a fantastic time I have had with the U13 Girls over the past four months,” she said.

“There were 11 girls that represented Warwick at the State Championships at the Sunshine Coast. We also had four Brisbane girls that joined us.

“The girls played their hearts out and had such a great experience. The friendships and bonds will last a lifetime. I am beyond proud of how the girls played and the respect and way they represented Warwick.

“A massive thank you goes out to the manager Deb Rhodes. I could not have done this without her.

“I myself had the best experience and time away and I can not wait to do it all over again next year. Well done girls and thank you for this opportunity.”
