Spring racing comes to the region

The horses will be racing across the Southern Downs and Granite Belt through the next month.

For horse racing enthusiasts the first weekend in October not only signals the start of the big spring racing events across in Australia but also a packed program on the Southern Downs and Granite Belt.

Allman Park will come alive on 14 October for the Warwick Cup Meeting.

The Warwick Credit Union Warwick Cup this year carrying prizemoney of $30,000.

The seven race card will include the running of the Newmarket handicap with prizemoney of $25,000.

On the Friday evening prior to race day the Warwick Turf Club will host the Warwick Sandstone Calcutta in the Member’s Lounge.

Nominations for the Warwick meeting close next Monday with weights declared on Tuesday morning.

Final acceptances will be declared next Thursday (12/10).

The following weekend the racing action turns to Armstong Park for the running of the Stanthorpe Cup which will be followed by the Clifton Cup meeting on 28 October.

Plans are well in hand for both these events with big numbers again expected at the Stanthorpe Cup meeting.

Among the visitors to the Stanthorpe Cup will be a group from the Queensland Owners and Trainers Association.

Meanwhile the committee of the Clifton Jockey club will have their fingers crossed for good weather after heavy rain forced the cancellation of their Cup Day meeting in 2022.
