Colts opener Lachlan Gross scored an impressive 115 in his side’s emphatic win over Sovereign Animals at Briggs Oval in the weekend’s round six Warwick Cricket Association Condamine Cup game.

Gross scored 115 of the Colts 308 runs with the team then restricting Sovereign to just 164.

Colts won the toss and Gross opened the batting with Matt Keirnan.

His 115 runs came off just 89 balls in great display of effortless shot making. His knock earning him the Player of the Round.

Matt Keirnan also reached a half century, his 52 coming off 60 balls as the pair put on an opening stand of 141.

John Cleary steadied the ship in the middle order after the loss of some cheap wickets. Cleary added another half century to his tally. He was out for 54 with the score at 7/292. Good to see Dave Walker back in the cricket gear batting down the order.

Colts were out for 308. Rob Wagner, the best of the Sovereign bowlers took three wickets and Harry Myall two.

Based on recent performances Sovereign faced an uphill battle however opener Mitchell Hay played an outstanding lone hand. He scored 86 of his team’s total of 164 runs.

As wickets collapsed around him Hay continued to add to his total. His runs coming off just 94 balls. Hay was he was caught and bowled by Tom Fern with the score 9/147. Mark Fowler added 22 runs at the tail, but it was too little late, and Sovereign were bundled out for 164. James Fern was the best of the Colts bowlers taking 3/26 from six. It was a comprehensive win on the back of a good team effort.

The Allora Green Ants hosted the First Choice Chiropractic Redbacks at Slade Oval.

The Redbacks good form continued, and Allora were bundled out in the 30th over for 106. Openers Tim Kajweski (16) and William Ole (21) did their best to set a platform for the remainder of the team but Allora had few answers against the Redbacks bowling attack.

Alex Dwan (4/27) and Mitch Darton (3/29) were two of the best performed bowlers in the round. Dwan dismissed Higgins and Christensen with the last two balls of the 12th over leaving him a chance for a hat trick across but bowled a dot ball with the first delivery of his next over.

The Redbacks lost just two wickets in their run chase wrapping up a win in the 14th over.

On Sunday at Slade Oval Vic Hill scored a 104-run win over Wheatvale. Batting first the Vic Hill openers Joe Morris (33) and Rahul Suresh (32) set the standard early in the innings. When Michale Bourke came to the wicket after Joe Morris was dismissed Vic Hill were 1/65 . In a vintage performance Michael Bourke anchored the innings scoring 91 before he was the last player dismissed having seen the score to 10/ 272.Max Bryant the best of the Wheatvale bowlers took 3/33 from five overs.

Wheatvale lost their first wicket at 16 and failed to put together a significant partnership for the remainder f the innings as the Vic Hill bowlers dominated. Wheatvale were all out for 104 in the 31st over. Tom Morris was the best with the ball taking 3/25 from six overs. But it was a good performance from all of the bowlers.

This weekend Redbacks play Colts in what should be a high class game at Slade on Saturday. Sovereign will need to be at their best against Vic Hill at Briggs Oval and on Sunday Wheatvale and Allora play at Slade.
