Cricketers and footballers recently swapped their Gray Nicholls and Sherrin footballs for golf clubs and a collection of little white balls to play the Redbacks Four ball Ambrose Golf Day.

Under very heavy skies, the field of close to 100 footballers, cricketers, sponsors, supporters and regular golfers teed off in the popular event which is played annually. Fortunately the rain held off long enough for everyone to complete their round.

President of the Redbacks AFC and Cricket Club Shelley Doyle thanked the local community for their support.

“It was an excellent day. Thank you to the Warwick Golf Club for hosting us again this year. “ Doyle said.

“A very big thank you to Jack Drewery, a member of our committee for the work he put into coordinating another successful Redbacks Golf Day.”

Club Pro Troy Alsford captained the winning side of Darcy Liesegang, Tanya Ryan and Cassie Landrigan. The team kicked it out of the park with the best overall nett score of 51.

The ladies who have recently attended golf clinics and are only beginning their golf journey were very chuffed with the win. It was great choice of captain ladies.

There were some great scores and on any other day many could have won the event.

That was the story for the runners up Wayne Wells Mark Simmonds Hamie Ollerton and Josh Mainwaring who scored net 51.

Kicking a goal with the overall Gross win was the team of Luke Forbes, Jessie Ollerton amie Ollerton and Josh Manwaring. The Gross runners up Cody Haynes, Sean Haynes Clayton McGahan and Mitchell Lamb.

The winners of the Long Drive for Men and Ladies were Jessie Harris and Sam Hinze.

On target with their Pin shots were Marks Simmonds (5th); Jamie Ollerton (7th) mark Simmonds (11th) Sean Haynes (13th) and Josh Manwaring (16th).

The Redbacks AFC extend a big thank you to all those sponsors who came on board for the day and were acknowledged on the day. Their respective banners along with Wickhams Truck were strategically placed around the course adding to the atmosphere of the event.

The Redbacks AFC are back in training for the 2024 season and are chasing new players for the season ahead. Up until February when things begin to ramp up, the Senior men and women train on Thrusday nights at WCU Oval.

Anyone interested in trying something different is urged to contact the club via email or Facebook or just drop into the club on training nights.
