Orienteering club steps up

The Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Orienteering club have one more fun day before the start of a busy competitive season.

Bullecourt Boulder Bounders Orienteering club’s season proper is set to get underway with their fun summer sprint orienteering event series coming to a close this weekend with the final event at the Warwick Showgrounds on Sunday.

Group spokesperson Liz Bourne said the three-event competition had been a good way for newcomers to learn orienteering basics.

“These sprints are just fun events so we don’t accumulate points or anything,” she said of the events which end with one last event on Sunday morning.

“Based on the first two events, we should have about 40 people coming along on Sunday.”

The club, which currently has 57 members, then moves into a more competitive phase.

“Our first bush event for the year will be on 10 March at Dalveen,” Bourne said.

“Our two day state championships are being held at the end of September and this year are being hosted by our club. They will be held on the Granite Belt.

“The Australian Championships this year will be held at Armidale so very close for our people to get to.”
