Summit bowler makes zone pairs final

Tenterfield’s Elana Scott and The Summit’s Dale Callaghan are set to represent the Southern Downs District in the zone playoffs in Chinchilla in March after coming home strongly to win the region’s mixed pairs titles at Tenterfield at the weekend.

The section winners from Saturday were – Shirley Alcock and Rob Alcock both from (Tenterfield) – Elana Scott (Tenterfield) and Dale Callaghan (The Summit) – Pam Moore and Mark Spiller both from (The Summit) – Frank Gallo and Wendy Hurall both from (Stanthorpe).

The semifinals were played on Sunday morning. In the first semifinal Scott and Callaghan played well and recorded a strong win over Gallo and Hurall 30 shots to 9. The second semifinal between Moore and Spiller and Shirley and Rob Alcock was much closer with Moore and Spiller scoring a hard-fought 24-16 win.

The final on Sunday afternoon was a close encounter for the early part of the match before Scott and Callaghan finished strongly to gain a lead over Pam and Mark and played well to turn this lead to a 22-15 win.

Three games of social bowls were played on Saturday afternoon. Results from the cards are as follows – Eddie Zanatta, Peter Balmer and Adrian Jackson 27 v Phil Davis, Trevor Wilmot and Paul Zamprogno 9 – Joe Straatman and Tony Schubert 24 v Larry Mullin and Brian Wilmot 12 – Kurt Empen and Rod Newlands 15 v Rod Crome and Carl Sutherland 12.

Our Men’s Championship singles will be played on this Saturday March 23 and Sunday March 24. The draw will be made later on Monday. The draw will be placed on the club face book page and will be on the board at the club.

Warwick bowls club

Combined Twilight Bowls on Friday 15 March had a wonderful roll-up of 18 players.

Result game one: Barry Best, Clark Davidson, Val Gray defeated Shane Bailey, Michael Dungey and Ryan Cooper 8-7; Cathy Ruhle, Nat Kumseewad and Gary Cooper beat Barry Cooper, Ray Southee and Denis Sterling 7-4; Cathy Best, Robert Symmons and John Ruhle defeated Gerda Brack, Marion Cirson and Max Balfour 9-6.

Result Game two: Barry Best, Clark Davidson and Val Gray def Gerda Brack, Marion Cirson and Max Balfour 7-5; Cathy Ruhle, Nat Kumseewad and Gary Cooper beat Shane Bailey, Michael Dungey and Ryan Cooper 9-4; Cathy Best, Robert Symmons and John Ruhle defeated Barry Cooper, Ray Southee and Denis Sterling 16-1. (Would players please fill in the ‘Total Score’ on each card so the Scribe will know who won and who didn’t). Touchers were won by Val Gray, Barry Best and Shane Bailey. Warwick East Bowls Club

Saturday Warwick East Bowls club played four games of triples social bowls with Steve Ford winning the day while runner-up was Jules Booth. There will be mixed social bowls on again this Saturday (23 March).

On Friday the club held their final evening bowls for this season. They will resume in spring when the days get longer and the weather warms up again.

Thursday 28 March the club will have its monthly pairs once again. Play starts at 9 am. From next month our Thursday bowls will return to a 10 am start. They will return to a 9 am start in spring.

Stanthorpe Bowls club triples

A record twelve team took part in the Stanthorpe Bowls club ‘Turkey Triples’ held on Tuesday, 12 March with Summit bowlers Rod Crome, Glen Preston and Adrian Jackson the eventual winners of the day.

Runners up for the day were the team of Colin Denning, Robyn Griffith and Julie Buse from the Warwick East Bowls Club. The club thanked everyone who participated in the event and the volunteers who prepared the lunch and the green and surrounds for the event. The next ‘Turkey Triples’ day will be held on Tuesday, 9 April.

In Social Bowls during the week, Barry Murphy, Caroline Draper and David Draper proved too strong for the team of Noala Trollip, Basil Trollip and David Rose. Sylean Fairley and Brian Brown had a convincing win over Luisa Girgenti and John Fairley and in a game of two halves, Caroline Draper, Greg Z and Len Girgenti had a 17 all draw with the team of Colin Denning, David Draper and Jack Bell.

In cool conditions on Thursday. 14 March, twenty players took to the green for Twilight Bowls.

Roly Scopelliti’s team defeated David Draper’s team 19 shots to 14. Len Leigh’s team defeated Santo Cavallaro’s team 14 shots to 8. In a nail-biter, Luisa Girgenti’s team defeated Caroline Draper’s team 11-10 and in the final game Jeff Alldridge’s team had a 19-13 win over Jack Bell’s team. ‘Twilight Bowls’ will be happening again tonight, Thursday 21 March from 6.30pm. To register, call the Club on 46811276 between 5.30pm and 6.00pm or be at the Club by 6pm to be slotted into a team. Novice bowler as well as regular bowlers are most welcome. A fun night is assured so come along and join in the fun.
