McLennan and Brandon star at Warwick women’s golf

Melanie McLennan and Carole Brandon were the big winners in the Club Warwick RSL Mid-Week Medal at Warwick Golf Club this past week.

Wednesday produced a lovely day to play with McLennan winning Division One with 70 nett, and Carole Brandon in Division Two also with 70 nett.

Both these women played well, but their putters were on fire as well, with both taking out the putting for their division as well.

Runners up in their respective divisions were Jill Barnes for division one, with 73 nett, and Roslyn Darton in division two with 72 nett.

The approaches for division one were taken out by Melanie and Jo McAntee, while in division two, a front nine player Lyn Lane took out the approach for their grade. the pro pin was shared between Di Evans, Anne Lyons Melanie McLennan, and Jill Barnes.

Saturday saw the heavens open up so there were no competition starters.

Wednesday April 10 will be a 18/9-hole single Stableford, while 13-14 April will see the first two rounds of the Women’s Presidents Foursomes.

Players are invited to grab a partner, find a spot on the timesheet and have a great day out to qualify for the second round.

The final two rounds will be held the following weekend. Conditions of play are on the noticeboard.

Another game to be aware of is the annual Crimestoppers day, which will be held on 17 April.

The day was sponsored by club member, Richard Reardon, and we thank him for the prizes on the day. Overcast conditions and showers put a damper on the day, especially for the early players, but the afternoon was relatively dry. The wet fairways meant not a lot of run for competitors.

The men’s match play series is progressing steadily with just a few remaining to complete the first round. Players should write on the draw sheet the result of their matches and arrange with next competitors a suitable playing time.

Members should have received the latest captain’s report and note that the visit from Kilcoy players and the Black Toyota ambrose event is getting close. Usually both days attract a good field and players should be thinking of arranging partners and teams for both events.

Next Saturday’s event is another stroke event sponsored by lady members, Kay Webb, Linda Kelly and Margie Locke. Time sheet again is online and ready to be fllled.
