Carnell Raceway is under new management with the Short Circuit Motorsport Association now officially taking over the lease of the Stanthorpe facility after years of working bees and preparation.

According to Association president Moss Lane club members were out in full force for Saturday’s opening round of the four-round SCMSA Sprints and Short Circuit Races competition.

The club ran the competition last year in their first year operating the course and Lane said they were ready for a busy year of motor racing again this year.

“It was our first round of the Short Circuit Motorsports Association event, we’ve just taken over the lease at Carnell after working on it for nearly two years,” he said.

“We finally have lease sorted out and it’s our home track now.

“We had 55 cars at the weekend– production through to improved production and sports sedan and we had eight junior cars as well. We’re really developing the junior side of things and it’s going really well. We’ve got a couple of young blokes, the Brennan boys, they are like clones of Will Brown from the V8 Supercars. They drive extremely well. We have a couple of girls who are driving as well.

“It was two days of racing, the first round of our series for the year, we’ve got another three races to run. The next one is in June, then one in September and October is our last round.

“Our results of this haven’t been posted yet – we have to check through them this week and make sure they are all right and then we will be posting them on website in the next week or so.

“It was a good weekend, everyone was happy and we’ve done a lot of work out at Carnell, we’ve tidied it up since we’ve taken it over and it’s looking at treat at the moment.”
