The Stanthorpe Gremlins Rugby League Club members past, present and future are in the spotlight at the moment with the senior club preparing for a major milestone while some of their juniors were making memories of their own at the weekend.

The Gremlins are set to celebrate 50 years of being the Gremlins – though the Stanthorpe club itself hits the 105 mark this year.

A major celebration will be held in Stanthorpe on 26 July at the Stanthorpe Civic Centre from 6pm, tickets are now available through the club’s website.

President Roger O’Brien said the night would include the 1974 coach who would be telling those gathered the story of how the club became the Gremlins and they hoped to get a big turnout of players past and present.

O’Brien laughed saying that they expected plenty of tall tales and true during the evening. It will be a full day of celebrations starting with the juniors playing Collegians at Sullivan Oval in the morning followed by a full round of seniors matches in the afternoon and then on to the dinner at the Civic Centre.

And while the older club are preparing to remember their past glories some of the club’s junior players were making memories of their own at the weekend.

The club’s juniors took on MIT in a full round of junior games on Saturday but that wasn’t the end of the day for a group of the young Gremlins.

The Under Nines and the Girls Under 14 side then boarded a bus bound for the Gold Coast to play at half time in the NRL Game between the Gold Coast Titans and the South Sydney Rabbitohs – taking plenty of pictures and making plenty of memories. Meanwhile back in Stanthorpe, our own Samantha Wantling was on-hand to take plenty of shots of the junior action.
