Angelo Maugeri has taken out the postponed monthly medal competition for Stanthorpe Golf Club held on 8 June.

The event, sponsored by Gary Kirby and Andersen’s carpets, was meant to be held a week earlier but feel victim to the heavy rain.

Maugeri returned the best score of the day, nett 72. His accurate putting had a lot to do with getting into first place. In second place was Aaron Simmers who was one back on nett 73, good enough to take the runner up prize. Quite a few on nett 74 to feature in the run down with a club voucher presented to Mick O’Brien, Alan Kerr and Kev Rowling.

In the ladies’ event, Mei Bell won with a nett 75, also collecting the approach at two, NTP at 12 and finally winning the John Green and Brendan McMillan sponsored raffle at the end of the day. Runner up was Nikki Waterworth who was one shot back on nett 76. Nikki also collected the NTP at 17. In the ladies’ run down, Lorraine Evans and Lisa Stuart were presented with a club voucher. Remaining approach shot at the ladies hole 7 went to Lisa Stuart.

Putting honours were closely contested but coming out with least putts for the men was Alan Kerr with 25 putts and Lisa Stuart for the ladies with 27 putts.

Remaining vouchers presented for men’s pin shots claimed by Scott Constable at 3 and N. Anderson (visitor) at 12. Pro-pins went to Matt Burgess and Greg Tibbs (visitor).

On Saturday 15 June, a stableford event has been scheduled with the Finch Cup being on offer for the winner. Sponsors for the day are Eric and Shaneen McLellan. Time sheet is available as usual on the club site.

Warwick Women

Trish Bell has taken out the Cherry Tree Coffee and Dining stableford with 38 points. Anne Lyons looked to have it won with a score of 47 but was pipped at the post by Bell who was in the last group. Balls in the rundown went firstly to one of our newer members, Janice Thomas 35, Jo McAntee 34, then the best of the 32’s, Ann Tomkins, Helen Olsen, Mary Young and Janine Stewart. The Pro Pin on the 7th went to Jo, Melanie, Janine and Roslyn. Other scores, Jill Barnes, Roslyn Darton, Melanie McLennan 32, Narelle Norris, Donna Keogh 30, Kath Devereux, Yvonne Pinington 29, Vicki Bennet, Maria Carey 28, Mary Adler, visitor from Victoria Golf Club, 21, Wendy Rhea 19. We also welcomed back Patti Hemmings after a little break.

On Thursday a team of seven ladies, Roslyn Darton, Marg Adcock, Jo McAntee, Anne Lyons, Anna Cox, Wendy Rhea and Melanie McLennan, travelled to Gailes Golf Club to play in their Open Day, The Gailes Cup. This event was first played in 1926 and was the first open event held in Queensland for lady golfers. Cox came home with a ball in the rundown and everyone else enjoyed the hospitality received from the Gailes ladies.

Saturday was the qualifying round for the annual 4BBB Handicap Handicap Matchplay event. We thank W Carey and Sons for their kind sponsorship of this event again this year. Mary Young and Helen Olsen combined to take out the day with 62 nett. Runners up were Jo McAntee and Kath Devereux, on a count back from Sam Hinze and Joely Singleton and Diane Evans and Anne Lyons all with 64, Trish Bell and Jill Barnes 65, Roslyn Daron and Melanie McLennan 66, Marg Adcock and Lyn McKillop on count back from Carole Brandon and Maria Carey 67, Dian MacDonald and Yvonne Pinington 68, Di Johnstone and Ann Tomkins on count back from Narelle Norris and Vicki Bennett 69, and Wendy Rhea and Anna Cox 70.

The quarter finals were held on Sunday. Mary and Helen won 5/4 against Di Johnstone and Ann Tomkins, Trish and Jill beat Roslyn and Melanie 3/1, Jo and Kath won 2/1 and in the closet match of the day Marg and Lyn won on the 18th against Di Evans and Anne Lyons, to go through to the semis which will be played on Saturday the 22nd. Warwick Sporters Golf

There were 64 starters in the Stableford game and a count back on 38 points was needed to separate Scott Mills and Trevor King with Mills coming out the winner.

Run down winners were Darrell Bain, Don Iedema, Mick Banks, Mark Thomas and Mal Galloway all on 37 points. On 36 points was Don Stewart and Mal Galloway and rounding things out on 35 points was Grant Ollerton.

The Pro Pin 13th Order of Merit was Dan Bowles, Mark Thomas and Evan Pfeffer.

Nearest the pins were 5th Dave Walker, 7th Jesse Ollerton, 9th A Skinner, 11th Trevor King and 16th Dan Bowles.

Stanthorpe Sporters Golf

Stanthorpe Sporters golfers played the front nine on Sunday 9 June Paul Armstrong had the best score of the day and his nett 31 secured the winner’s prize. He would also have the best gross score of the day needing 41 hits for the nine holes. The runner up had to be decided with a cut of the cards with both Terry Byrnes and John Rawlings returning nett 32. The cut went in favour of Byrnes.

Next Sunday 16 June, Sporters will be playing the back nine. Tee off at 8am. Invitation to all golfers to come and play the nine-hole event, just turn up prior to 8am.
