The Summit’s Jamie Zamprogno has taken out the 2024 Men’s District Singles Finals at Tenterfield on Sunday booking a place in the singles playoffs in Chinchilla in late July.

It was almost two from two for the club with Pam Moore coming runner up in the Ladies District Singles Title at The Summit on Saturday afternoon – beaten only by Warwick’s Fay Flint.

Zamprogno, who has a long family history in the sport, beat Warwick East’s Peter Collis in the semifinal with Tenterfield’s Mark Gallagher taking the other semi 25-15 against Stanthorpe’s ld) 25 v Len Girgenti (Stanthorpe).

Zamprogno proved too strong in the final beating Gallagher 26-19.

All games in the final series were quite close. Often a few centimetres decided the result of ends. There were also some great saving shots played when under pressure.

Social games were played at the club on Saturday afternoon. Results are as follows Phil Larsen, Brian Wilmot and Rob Capelli 14 defeated Dave Blackley, Michael Surch and Steve Martin 11, Joe Straatman, Phil Davis and Matt Murphy 19 beat Gwen Blackley, Ray Spiller and Carl Sutherland 14; Mary Zanatta, Paul Zamprogno and Rod Crome 14 beat Margaret Harvey, Eddie Zanatta and Adrian Jackson 10. Trophy winners, thanks to the generosity of Michael Sweeney, were Pam Moore and Judy Richardson

The Summit teams for the club sevens have been selected: Team one: Pairs David Stibbard, Rob Capelli , Jamie Zamprogno and Tony Schubert; Triple: Mattie Murphy, Tyler Sweeney and Steve Martin; Team two: Pairs: Frank Taylor and Dale Callaghan; Paul Zamprogno and Michael Sweeney; Triples: Adrian Jackson, Glenn Preston and Carl Sutherland; Team 3: Pairs: Rod Newlands and Pam Moore; Kurt Empen and Owen O’Brien; Triples: Rod Crome, Ray Spiller and Phil Davis. It needs to be pointed out to all bowlers in all clubs that all bowlers playing in District events must be dressed in the appropriate registered club shirt and trousers. This was passed at the District Meeting on Saturday and will be implemented immediately. Players will be notified of the playing venues next week.

Calendar for the coming weeks: Tuesday 18 June: Turkey Triples; Saturday 22 June 22: practice games for the Sevens’ teams all players need to come to this; Saturday, Sunday 29-30 June: Club Sevens at Tenterfield.

Stanthorpe Bowls Club

Stanthorpe bowlers Robyn Rose, Wendy Hurnall and David Rose have take out the Stanthorpe monthly ‘Turkey Triples’ event held on Tuesday 11 June with 28 points.

Twelve teams nominated for the event with runners up for the day, with a score of 27 points, were from the Summit Bowls Club, the team of Rod Crome, Tony Schubert and Adrian Jackson.

On Saturday 15 June Stanthorpe’s 2024 Ladies Club Champion Wendy Hurnall took part in the district ‘Champion of Champions’ event which was held at the Summit Bowls Club.

Hurnall competed extremely well as per usual in her preliminary game but unfortunately went down by three shots, 18 to 21 to eventual winner, Warwick’s Faye Flint.

Flint went on to win the final by 25 shots to 16, defeating Pam Moore of the Summit Bowls Club.

In the Men’s section held on Sunday June 16, Len Girgenti did battle with Mark Gallagher of the Tenterfield Bowls Club. Len started well and at the half-way mark the scores were fairly even however, in the second part of the game, Gallagher took control and ended up winning quite comfortably by 25 shots to 15.

In a game of Social Bowls fours during the week, Helen Jones, Caroline Draper, Brian Brown and Gary Trevena had a comfortable 21 shots to 9 victory over the team of Colin Denning, David Draper, Polly Lay and David Rose.

Warwick Bowls Club

On Wednesday 12 June, the second round of the open singles continued, and Social Bowls.

Result of Open Singles: Max Balfour def Dave Scotney 26-16. In the Social game Pat Seipelt, Bob Marrell, and Russell Bean def Pat Seipelt (who played for both teams), Ken Hayes and John Ruhle 23-11; Pamela Kerr, Shane Bailey and Barry Perks def Trish Owens, Michael Dungey and Marion Cirson 22-19.

On Saturday, 15 June, the first round of club selected pairs were held followed by the semi final, and social bowls.

Result round one: Dave Russell and Russell Bean beat Shane Bailey and John Ruhle 19-17; Aaron Payne and Dave Scotney defeated Pat Seipelt and Geoff Davis 24-14; Gary Cooper and Max Balfour beat Ken Hayes and Craig Thurgate 14-10; Marion Cirson and Trevor Wright won on a forfeit from Marion Skaines and Jim Rickard. Semi-final: Marion Cirson and Trevor Wright defeated Dave Russell and Russell Bean 25-13; Gary Cooper and Max Balfour beat Aaron Payne and Dave Scotney 26-9.

The final will be played on Saturday, 22 June, with Marion Cirson and Trevor Wright vers Gary Cooper and Max Balfour.

Result of social : Pamela Kerr and John Ruhle drew with Percy Cutmore and Geoff Davis, nine each.

Coming Events for June: Saturday 22: CS Pairs Final and social bowls; Wednesday 25: Jackpot pairs. NB 13 July, CS Triples.

Warwick East

Warwick East will hold their open singles competition on Saturday, 22 June 22.

Players should be at the club by 9am for a 9.30 start. Players should be in uniform. As so many of their members are playing in this competition, the club doesn’t know if there will be enough bowlers left over for mixed social bowls. Those interested in playing, please ring the club on 4661 9050 between noon and 12.30 to find out if social bowls is happening.

On Saturday (15 June) the club had a very good attendance at their mixed social bowls, playing eight games of triples. The overall winner was Gunter Nicklich, with Ed Diery runner-up. In equal third place were Marlene Hall, Peter Collis, Lynn Collie and Matt Shepherd. The attempt at the jackpot was unsuccessful.

Next Thursday (27 June) will be their monthly pairs competition, with play starting at 10am. Then on the following Saturday (29 June) there will be mixed social bowls as usual.
