McKinney stars in open singles

Aaron McKinney has taken out the Warwick East open singles for this year, finalised on Sunday.

McKinney defeated Adam Tozer in the final 25-13, pulling away after a close game initially.

The competition began with sectional play on Saturday, starting in rather miserable weather before it cleared up into a fine day.

The winners of the eight sections played the quarter finals, semi-finals and final on Sunday. The quarter finals saw Peter Collis defeat Wayne Foster 21-20; Adam Tozer beat Steve Tyter 21-17; Jules Buse defeat Ralph Tate 21-9; Aaron McKinney too strong for Rob Alcock 21-8.

In the semi-finals Adam Tozer beat Peter Collis 25-12 while Aaron McKinney defeated Jules Buse 25-2.

Today (27 June 27) is the monthly pairs competition, with play starting at 10am. On Saturday (29 June) a lot of the club’s players will be away in Tenterfield participating in their seven-a-side competition, but there will still be social bowls for everyone else. Play will start as usual at 1pm.

Next week is the club’s monthly triples competition, which will be held on Thursday (4 July), with play starting at 10am.

The Summit

There were several practice games and games of social bowls played on Saturday afternoon at the Summit.

Results were as follows – Matthew Murphy, Eliseo Zamprogno and Tyler Sweeney 18 beat Adian Jackson, Glenn Preston and Carl Sutherland 13; Larry Mullen, George Little and Pam Moore 17 defeated Rod Crome, Ray Spiller and Phil Davis 16; David Stibbard and Rob Capelli 27 beat Jamie Zamprogno and Tony Schubert 12; Frank Taylor and Dale Callaghan 18 defeated Paul Zamprogno and Michael Sweeney 12; Dave Blakley and Cliff Jones 36 beat Barry Murphy and Joe Straatman 0; Gwen Blakley and Alex Mattiazzi 19 beat Peter Balmer and Phil Larsen 12.

Winners of the first draw were Carl Sutherland, Glenn Preston and Adrian Jackson and winners of the second draw were Cliff Jones and Gwen Blackley. New members Gwen and Dave Blackley are welcomed to bowls on Saturday afternoons.

The club sevens will be played at Tenterfield next Saturday with the final to be played at the same venue on Sunday morning. All players are reminded to be there by 8.30 with roll ups starting at 8.45am. All players, representing The Summit, are reminded that are reminded to wear their club shirt and the registered club short or long trousers which are black.

Calendar for the coming weeks: 29-30 June: Club sevens at Tenterfield.

Warwick Bowls Club

Saturday saw the final of the Club Selected Pairs with Max Balfour and Gary Cooper defeating Trevor Wright and Marian Cirson in a well fought game, 17-23.

There were two games of triples for social bowls played and the winner of the Dominos Pizza voucher was Shane Bailey.

The Open Singles semi-final between Max Balfour and Russell Bean was also played with Bean winning 25-24. Marker Faye Flint.

Michael Dungey joined an elite group when he was presented with his Super Vets badge this week.
