Men’s Shed members learn bowls

Warwick Bowls Club hosted 12 men from the Warwick Men’s Shed on Monday to learn to bowl.

On Wednesday afternoon, some of the toughest people in the club showed up in the chilly conditions for social bowls sponsored by KFC.

John Ruhle won a $50 KFC voucher. He declined to take it, then Michael Dungey’s name was drawn out. He’s s going to donate it back for lunch some time.

On Saturday, the Club Selected Triples competition final was played with David Russell, Ray Southee and John Ruhle becoming the champs after defeating Marian Cirson, Marion Skaines and Jim Rickard 25 to 20. Well done to all.

In the Social Bowls, the club was joined by Kim Driscoll from Manly.

Gary Cooper won the $25 in the Lucky Numbers raffle and John Ruhle was lucky again picking up a complimentary game.

There will be no bowls on Saturday, 27 July as there is a private function.

Sunday, 28 July is Krazy Krafty Kitty sponsored by Rosehill Sandstone.

Dress “Krafty” (beanie, socks etc) and bring friends. There will be two sessions 10.30am and 1.30pm. All welcome, especially beginners. A fun day for only $15. Book with Faye 4661 4153 or the clubhouse 4661 1516. Please, no heels.

The Summit Bowls

Pennant practice was held on Saturday afternoon. Despite the windy weather twenty-two players showed club spirit and turned up for the practice.

Results: Jamie Zamprogno, Frank Taylor, Michael Sweeney and Rob Capelli 24 defeated Matthew Murphy, Carl Sutherland, Tyler Sweeney and Steve Martin 12; Rod Crome, Merrylea Wilson, Larry Mullins and Adrian Jackson 17 beat Maree Ball, Brian Wilmot, Pam Moore and Cameron Wilson 14; Peter Balmer, Cliff Jones and Peter Ayerst 15 defeated Rocky Thompson, Larry Mullins and Glenn Preston 14.

The next pennant practice will be held on Saturday, 3 August. Selected teams are as follows. Teams printed from lead to skip – Team one: D Stanley, David Stibbard, Michael Sweeney and R Capelli; Team Two: Jamie Zamprogno, Frank Taylor, Dale Callaghan and Tony Schubert; Team Three: Matthew Murphy, Larry Mullins, Tyler Sweeney and S Martin; Team Four: Rod Crome, Pam Moore, Owen O’Brien and Glenn Preston; Team Five: Cliff Jones, Maree Ball, Cameron Wilson and Adrian Jackson.

The next event on the club’s competition calendar will be the Men’s B Grade Singles. This event is open to those who have not won a B Grade or and A Grade at any club. Nomination sheet is on the board.

There will only be social bowls at the club next Saturday as several bowlers will be out at Chinchilla for the Group Three playoffs. The club wishes Jamie, Glenn, Cameron, Adrian, Frank and Dale and Elana from Tenterfield all the best.
