Stanthorpe golfers gone with the wind

It was a testing, trying and terrible day for the ancient sport of golf at Stanthorpe on Saturday.

If the movie ‘Gone with the Wind’ is long, then Saturday’s golf was longer.

Players had to contend with the wind blowing the ball off the ball tee when getting ready to drive and the ball getting the ‘wobbles’ while they were trying to putt. Never the less, it was both fun and challenging … and we are glad that it is not like that all the time.

The day was made special because of our generous sponsors; Marie Cook and Nathan Stibbard of GTL Concrete Pumping.

The writer can vouch for the excellent job and price that Nathan does when it comes to pumping concrete. His business is such a boon to the Granite Belt and we are grateful to have GTL Concrete Pumping as part of our Granite Belt community and to have Nathan as part of the golfing fraternity. Nathan hits a long, long drive.

Not necessarily on the aimed for fairway, but ‘hey’ – a long drive just the same. Thank you Marie Cook for your kind and generous support of the club over many years.

The ‘Scarlett O’Hara’ (ladies) winners for the day were Linda Kelly and Lynette Ludlow. Pins to Lynette Ludlow, Nikki Waterworth and Linda Kelly.

The ‘Rhett Butler’ (men’s) winners were Hamish Adam with a really good score of 37 Stableford points, and Ron Batterham. Pins to Dave Draper, Ron Batterham, Jarrod Irwin and Matt Burgess.

Next week is sponsored by two of our own, Ray Thorn and Terry Roser. Thank you in advance.

The strong breeze made me think of a TV commercial; ‘Stanthorpe’s better with a better golf network, ffww ffww, its hard to talk in the wind, ffww, ffww.’ (over time for me to stop writing).
