Tansey dominate Polocrosse action

The strong Tansey and Tara club’s have dominated this year’s Rosebowl and Cory Cup Polocrosse Club competitions at Warwick’s Morgan Park at the weekend.

It was a Tansey-Tara show-down for both cups with Tansey taking both the men’s IOR Rosebowl title and the women’s DC Advice Cory Cup Women’s Club Competition in a dominant performance over Tara.

Warwick Polocrosse president Les Fraser said this was the club’s last big competition of the year.

“Tansey won both big events, they are a very strong club,” he said.

“Their women’s team is a very good team – so too is their men’s but their women’s cup team in particular is very strong. They have two world cup representatives who have just returned from playing in the world championships in South Africa.

“They played Tara in both the finals, they have strong men’s and women’s teams. They Warwick in the semi finals and they defeated the men by two and the women by one. They were two very very good semi finals. We were in swim but just weren’t good enough at the death knell.”

Fifty teams took part including eight women’s teams and eight juniors and the rest were open club teams. The teams came from as far south as Quirindi in NSW up to Rockhampton and west to Duranbandi.

“Duranbandi won the A grade competition,” Fraser said.

“They beat the Gold Coast in the final of the Fraser’s Transport A grade competition, it was a close game and they won by just one point. There were some great games of polocrosse.”

The Polocrosse action now switches to Tansey for the Qld Cup Championship in just over a week’s time.

“We’ll have four or five teams from Warwick there,” he said.

“It will be a strong competition, the club championships – our final event of the year. It will be strong in all levels right from A grade through to C Grade, women’s and juniors. There will be 60-70 teams so there will be plenty of competition.”
