Yogi Keegan, Ray Spiller, Darren Stanley and Rob Capelli have taken out the Summit Men ‘s Four competition played at the Summit club during the weekend.

The team dominated the second half of the contest to beat the team of Peter Balmer, Michael Surch, Michael Sweeney and Tyler Sweeney 21 to 11. The final was closely contested during the early ends with the scores tied at 11-all at the 13 end.

However, team Capelli came home strongly to control the game and shut down their opponents, winning by 10 shots.

The results of the early play on Saturday morning had seen Trevor and Brian Wilmot, Adrian Jackson and Tony Schubert 24 beat Rod Crome, Phil Davis, Dale Callaghan and Frank Taylor 20. While in the other game Rod Newlands, Alex Mattiazzi, Carl Sutherland and Jamie Zamprogno beat Paul Zamprogno, Cameron Wilson, Peter Ayerst and Eliseo Zamprogno 18-11. The semifinals were played on Saturday afternoon and in the first semi Peter Balmer, Michael Surch, Michael Sweeney and Tyler Sweeney 17 beat Rod Newlands, Alex Mattiazzi, Carl Sutherland and Jamie Zamprogno 15. In the second semifinal Yogi Keegan, Ray Spiller, Darren Stanley and Rob Capelli 18 defeated Trevor Wilmot, Brian Wilmot, Adrian Jackson and Tony Schubert 14.

In both semifinals the winning teams started well and raced to good leads. To their credit both losing teams fought back but could not peg back the lead. This meant that team Capelli played team Sweeney in the final on Sunday afternoon. The green had been rolled and was running quickly with a wide draw. This made playing shots difficult. It was fortunate there was no wind blowing. The final was closely contested for the first thirteen ends with the scores tied at eleven all. However, team Capelli took control of the game and won out winners 21 shots to 11. Yogi, Ray, Darren and Rob are congratulated on their win.

One game of social was played Bill Larsen, Gwen Blackley and Rod Crome 13 v Dave Blackley, Barry Murphy and Matthew Murphy 11. Dave Blackley was the trophy winner.

The mixed two bowl triples will be played this weekend at Warwick East. The sectional draw has been done and is posted on the district’s face book page. It was unfortunate that only eight teams have nominated for the event. This means the district runs the event at a loss.

Calendar for the coming weeks: Saturday, 28 September: Mixed Two Bowl Triples sectional play at Warwick East; Social Bowls at The Summit. Sunday 29 September Mixed Triples finals. Saturday 26 October Apple Blossom Pairs. Sunday 27 October Apple Blossom Fours.

Warwick Bowls Club

Wednesday, 18 September, the club had its last KFC sponsored social bowls with 22 bowlers taking to the green. There were some great games and some not so great games. Warwick Bowls thanked KFC for their support over the years which had been much appreciated.

Vic Skilton won the Lucky Numbers raffle. John Ruhle and Marian Cirson took home KFC vouchers.

It was good to have Denis Stirling back for a game. He and Russell Bean defeated Shane Bailey and Brian Black 28 to 10.

Peter Guy and Dan Stark got well on top of Dave Russell and Ken Hayes 35 to 9.

35 seemed to be a good number as that was what James White and Ray Southee managed to get when they played Vic Skilton and Clark Davidson who only got seveb points.

Geoff Davis and Dave Scotney played well against Max Balfour and Trevor Wright, coming up trumps with a win 18 to 14.

Pamela Kerr, Faye Flint and John Ruhle were too good for Marian Cirson, Marion Skaines and Barry Perks, defeating them 15 to 10.

On Saturday, 21 September, Geoff Davis and Gary Cooper defeated Dave Russell and Max Balfour 24 to 9. Clark Davidson and Marion Skaines just got on top of John Ruhle and Dave Scotney 28 to 27.

Jim Rickard and Ken Hayes scraped in to win 17/16 over Peter Guy and Maria (visitor).

Ray Southee and Russell Bean easily defeated Marian Cirson and Shane Bailey 30 to 14.
