Wattles Warriors A grade halfback Matt Duggan has been named the club’s Player of the year for a record time following the Rugby League club’s 59th presentation function and banquet at Clifton’s FE Logan Hall on Friday night.

Former Queensland Rangers playmaker Duggan appears to have achieved legendary status with the Warriors, having won the Allora-Clifton based club’s top player honours on seven occasions since first donning the green and gold back in 2013, a career that has included three Toowoomba Rugby League A Grade premiership success.

Duggan attributed his success to being a member of “some very good sides under good coaches that have allowed me to have some good seasons.”

Duggan also tied for A Grade Player’s Player with Nick Van Der Poel while Van Der Poel was the A Grade Best and Fairest Player.

The Presentation function opened on a sad note, with a tribute and minute’s silence in memory Duggan’s uncle a Club Patron and Life Member Jack Duggan, who died recently.

The Presidents report outlined a year of significant achievements for the Wattles Club with president Amanda O’Halloran saying the club’s biggest off field-win of the season was receiving the notification from the Minister for Tourism and Sport Qld Michael Healy, advising of Wattles’ success in a grant application, for the Installation of new lighting for the two fields at Platz Oval, at a total cost in excess of $420 000.

Former Wattles star, Queensland and International representative Greg Platz was among a bumper crowd that included special guests, players, supporters, sponsors and Life Members that attended the function, which was expected given the Warriors success in the past Toowoomba Rugby League season, having all three teams contest the finals series, and the reserve grade line-up qualifying for the preliminary final.

Meanwhile tickets are on sale until tomorrow (Friday, 4 October) for the Warwick Cowboys Presentation evening to be held at the Cowboys Clubhouse on 11 October, 6pm for a 6.30pm start check the club’s Facebook page for more information.
