MOTORCYCLE riders from across the state are gearing up for the iconic Bikes Thru the Bar event at Bony Mountain next month.
Organiser and president of the Ulysses Club Warwick branch, Wayne “Angry” Farrugia, said he was hoping to break the long-standing record at the Bony Mountain Recreation Reserve on Saturday, 12 October.
“We hold the “Bikes Thru the Bar” record of 1278 which was set five years ago and we’re still trying to break it,” he said.
“What we’d really like to see is support from the community to help raise much-needed funds for our nominated charities.”
This year’s fund-raising will go to RACQ Careflight, Leukaemia Foundation of Queensland and the Ulysses Club Arthritis Research Fund.
Mr Farrugia has extended an invitation to all Southern Downs residents to come along and enjoy three days of thrills and spills, from 11-13 October.
Friday, 11 October, there will be a karaoke sing-along and auction to nominate the first bike through the bar.
Saturday, 12 October, will see the Bikes Thru the Bar event, as well as bike and car show and shine, helicopter rides (weather permitting), bike gymkhana, pig races with calcutta and sweeps for each race and live entertainment until midnight.
Powered camping sites are available with hot showers, bar, food and product stalls as well as eftpos available.
General public admission is $5, kids under 12 free, bike entry $15, pillion $10, camping $10.
