Crime on rise

STANTHORPE faces an increasing crime problem and police are appealing for members of the public to report incidents as they happen.
Officer-in-Charge of Stanthorpe Police, Senior Sergeant Mark Ireland, said offenders forced entry to a large shed on Granite Belt Drive, Cottonvale on Thursday night.
The alleged offenders emptied a large amount of oil onto the floor of the shed before stealing a quantity of diesel.
In a separate incident, a dwelling in Sugarloaf Road was broken into last Tuesday, but no property was reported stolen.
“The number of offences occurring within the Stanthorpe Police Division are beginning to increase and police request residents to report any suspicious behaviour in your area if and when you see it,” Snr Sgt Ireland said.

Shoplifting charges
A 31-YEAR-OLD woman was charged with two shop stealing offences in Stanthorpe CBD last Monday afternoon.
It is alleged the woman, well known to police, entered two adjacent businesses and stole a large quantity of property before fleeing the scene.
She was located and charged by police a short time later and all property recovered.

Driving offences
A TEENAGER driving unaccompanied on a learner’s permit late on Friday night was charged with drink driving after he recorded a blood-alcohol level of .058 per cent.
A 35-year-old man will face Stanthorpe Court in October after he recorded and alcohol reading of .083 per cent.
A third drink driver, a 24-year-old man, was intercepted early Sunday morning in Connor Street and recorded .178 per cent.

Drug charges
THREE drug offenders caught last week will front Stanthorpe Magistrates’ Court.
A 16-year-old youth was charged with possessing drug paraphernalia after police searched a residence in Old Caves Road.
A 21-year-old old passenger of a vehicle intercepted at Thulimbah on Saturday afternoon was also charged after drugs and smoking implements were located in the vehicle.
On Sunday, police intercepted a vehicle at The Summit and located drug smoking utensils. A man, 43, was charged with various drug offences.
