Highway works start

WORK to improve road safety on the New England Highway has started about 23 kilometres south of Glen Innes.
MEMBER for Northern Tablelands Adam Marshall said funding for the roadworks was earmarked in the state budget and would involve restoration of the existing road to improve safety and traffic flow.
Work started on 16 September and will take around six weeks to complete, weather permitting, he said.
Drivers are reminded the highway has a reduced speed limit of 40km/h on weekdays from 7am to 6pm and Saturdays from 8am to 1pm.
A spokeperson for the Roads and Maritime Services (RMS) said traffic would be reduced to one lane to create a safe workspace with electronic message signs in place to advise motorists of changed conditions.
Roads and Maritime apologises for any inconvenience during the work.
