THESE young women have their careers set for take-off.
Ashleigh Bailey and Amy Cox were chosen by Southern Downs Regional Council to join The Propeller Program to develop their leadership skills.
They joined a group of 30 in the program, facilitated by the Local Government Management Association of Queensland and focused on developing future leaders through experiential learning.
“The major goal of the program is to become future leaders of local government in Queensland,” Ms Bailey said.
Participants in The Propeller Program meet regularly five or six times a year at different local governments in the state.
“It’s been a really good experience,” said Ms Bailey.
SDRC CEO Andrew Roach described the course as “magic” for prospective managers in local government.
“It provides young people like Ashleigh with other people from councils across the state, to exchange ideas and hear from a great number of different speakers about processes and changes happening across our industry,” Mr Roach said.
He said similar courses didn’t exist as he rose through the ranks but he was fortunate in having a number of mentors who “took me under their wing”.
Another two SDRC staff would join The Propeller Program next year, he said.
