Aussie-grown food in favour

WHEN federal MP Bruce Scott goes grocery shopping he hones in on the “product of Australia” label, and he’s urging others to do the same.
“There’s nothing better than turning over a red apple and seeing a ‘grown in the Granite Belt’ type label,” the Member for Maranoa said.
“I think the Maranoa is home to some of Australia’s best food products so I’m pushing for more local farmer support and I encourage the buy Aussie-made campaign.”
Mr Scott welcomed last week’s announcement by Woolworths that it will stop importing all frozen vegetables sold as its own-brand products from May next year.
“This is a small step in the right direction by a major supermarket but I call on them to extend their commitment into other fresh Australian farm food products,” he said.
“In May this year, Woolworths switched from imports to Goulburn Valley peaches in its own-branded tinned fruit which saw sales jump 40 per cent nationally.
“Australian consumers want great Aussie-grown produce whether it be fruit, vegetables, dairy, meat or cereals,” Mr Scott said.
“Buying Australian-grown produce should always be the first step not only because you can trust the source but also you’re supporting Aussie farmers.”
