A 90th birthday can’t hold Pat Hurley back.
Mrs Hurley lives independently and continues to run beef cattle, still driving into Killarney where she volunteers at the local St Vinnie’s opportunity shop.
Born in Toowoomba in 1923, Mrs Hurley lived in Tenterfield until she married Edward in 1948.
That union produced five children and lasted 60 years until death did them part five years ago.
Family and friends celebrated Mrs Hurley’s 90th birthday not once, but three times. The latest celebration was at the St Vincent de Paul shop, where manager Bev Moore had nothing but praise.
“She’s been a wonderful supporter, she drives here every Wednesday on her own and she hates missing a day,” Ms Moore said.
Her three birthday parties allowed the new nonagenarian to see lots of family and friends. She was particularly thrilled that a niece and nephew had flown from Adelaide for the celebrations.
“I’ve been blessed with fairly good health, and I guess that’s something,” Mrs Hurley said.
