Axel a sales differential

Axel the parrot is a hit in Inglewood

By MAVIS STOWER

AXEL, a small two-year-old Blue Indian Ringneck parrot is fast becoming a celebrity in Inglewood. Axel’s main domain is the area behind the counter at the local newsagency owned by Trish Lee.
It is here that he holds court to a constant stream of admirers as he exercises on a special ladder, plays with his toys or perches comfortably on Trisha’s shoulder while she serves her customers.
Trish says the children of the town come in and say hello to Axel before greeting her and, the other day, four adults were happily lined up at the end of the counter talking to Axel while waiting to be served. She jokes that maybe, with a little bit of training, Axel could be taught to sell a paper or two!
