Angels of Mercy

THEY drop out of the sky like mechanical angels, load the sick and injured, and off they go again, heading for one of the state’s top hospitals.
Last week it was the Emergency Management Queensland chopper, pictured, which transported an elderly man to hospital in Brisbane.
On Tuesday it was RACQ Careflight’s turn after a two-year-old Toowoomba boy was flown to Mater Children’s Hospital amid concerns he had been bitten by a snake.
The child was with his parents at Sundown National Park, near Texas, when the suspected bite occurred. His parents told the CareFlight crew they only saw the snake slithering away from the child, but applied a compression bandage and called for assistance.
The toddler was taken by road ambulance to Texas Hospital before RACQ CareFlight airlifted him to the Mater Children’s Hospital for observation.
He was not showing signs of envenomation and was in a stable condition.
