Station history turns page

A VISIT to historic Pikedale Station with a camera club years ago inspired Amiens woman Sandra McEwan to do a photography course.
Now a diploma student at Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE, Ms McEwan has revisited Pikedale. The result is a book of her fine photographs of the property.
She launched the book at Art Works on Davadi in Stanthorpe earlier this month.
Guests included singer James Blundell whose song “The Age of Grace” is about Pikedale. Mr Blundell grew up in the area. Originals of the photographs are also on display at Art Works. Pikedale Station was established in 1843 and decades later achieved world fame for its wool production. It also hosted governors and other dignitaries over many years. During World War II it housed St Hilda’s school from Southport.
The station changed hands several times. The 54-room homestead was destroyed by fire in 1963.
Ms McEwan has printed 300 numbered copies of the book, which is on sale at Art Works on Davadi.
She has been invited to exhibit new works in the Stanthorpe Art Gallery in October 2015.
