WARWICK-BORN musician and educator Dr James Cuskelly is on his way home for an afternoon of music, featuring 2009 Australia’s Got Talent winner Mark Vincent.
James, born and bred in Warwick, will conduct the Queensland Kodaly Choir, that will back the talented young singer during this weekend’s concert dubbed a ‘Music Interlude in the Rose City’. The Australia’s Got Talent winner will entertain guests at Warwick Town Hall on Sunday, March 23, to raise funds for MontroseAccess, a charity supporting children with a disability in Warwick and throughout Queensland.
MontroseAccess fundraising manager Leanne Liesegang said the entertaining afternoon would showcase local talent and feature Mark Vincent, one of Australia’s great talents.
“Mark will perform with local performers and the Queensland Kodaly Choir conducted by Dr James Cuskelly,” Ms Leisegang said.
“Come along and be entertained by some fabulous talent while supporting a wonderful local charity.
“The afternoon will be compered by Warwick Tourism and Events CEO Tracy Vellacott.
“Mark Vincent is considered the ultimate showman and the consummate professional. He emotionally connects to the songs, telling the stories as they unfold, making the audience think.
“He continues to grace the world with his dulcet tones, showcasing the old school classics in his unique style.
“It’s an afternoon not to be missed.”
For James Cuskelly, presently head of faculty – creative arts and design studies at St Aidan’s Anglican Girl’s School – where he teachers from Kindy to Year 12, the event is something of a home coming.
He was the eighth son in a family of nine boys growing up in Warwick and attending St Mary’s for his early schooling, the Christian Brothers from Years 5 to 10 and completed senior schooling at Warwick State High School. James went on to study at The University of Queensland completing a bachelor of arts (1984), and a diploma of education in 1985.
He is currently also the director of the International Summer School Music Program (Brisbane), the vice-president of the International Kodaly Society, and musical director of the Queensland Kodaly Choir.
