Show must go on

THE District may be drought declared but the show must go on with the 87th annual Warwick Show starting on Friday.
Warwick Show and Rodeo Society secretary Julia Kruger said while numbers were slightly down in some categories it was still going to be a big three-day event for the town.
And despite the lack of rain, organisers are confident it will be a great show with plenty of entertainment for the whole family.
“I just spoke to the Prime Lamb steward and we have loads of entries – more than we anticipated,” Ms Kruger said.
She said the show must go on drought, rain or snow and they were expecting plenty of visitors and a lot of great events over the jam-packed three-day program.
The show kicks off tomorrow with people’s day, which Ms Kruger said was expected to be one for the whole family.
“We have quite a bit of sponsorship money from Big W this year so we will have a free circus giving three performances a day on Friday and Saturday and two on Sunday,” she said.
“There is a free children’s workshop after the circus and for any child who has ever wanted to run away to the circus this will show you just what it’s all about.”
Children are the major focus of tomorrow’s opening day with Punch and Judy Shows as well as a fully interactive RSPCA Education Unit as well as an animal nursery under a shady tree.
“Then we will have a massive night program with a lucky ball drop at 6.20pm with the chance to win a Redback mountain bike and all children winning a flavoured milk from NORCO,” she said.
The night will also feature the Scot’s College band as well as Fireworks, sponsored by Spanos IGA and Southern Automotive, a Farmers’ Challenge (involving teams of four competing against each other while performing farm tasks) and the Demolition Derby.
Saturday will feature a full program including wood-chopping, shearing and show jumping as well as, for the first time in many years, the grand parade, including a heavy horses display, at 2pm.
Entry will be free on Sunday, which also features a full program.
