A day of Jazz

ROBERT Channon Wines has a day of jazz, brass band and big band music to enjoy this Saturday. Admission is free all day and the music will be starting at about 11.30am with jazz from the Ormiston College Jazz Band and Brisbane group Bird’s Apprentices.
After that, the Stanthorpe Brass Band will chime in for a session and the music will continue for the afternoon.
The music will be outdoors, but if it rain, can go indoors into the winery’s Swigmore Hall. There will be food available all day from the barbecue, coffee and cakes from the Cafe and, of course, wine to drink. There is plenty of outdoor seating and no need to book but for information, call (07) 4683 3260.
On Sunday, visitors can taste a sequence of some remarkable trophy and medal winning wines when Robert and Peggy Channon host a vertical tasting of their winery’s estate grown chardonnays.
“Queensland Wine Week is an excellent excuse for looking at our older chardonnays,” Mr Channon said.
“We can go back to 2002 as our starting point. Some of the vintages since then are now missing but we still have at least a few bottles left of all of our major trophy winning vintages.
“It will be interesting to see how the oldest vintages are holding up, but the wines from 2004 still look very good.”
The tasting is available all day on Sunday 6 April at Robert Channon Wines’ cellar door in Bradley Lane off Amiens Road, Stanthorpe. There is a $5 tasting charge and bottles of some of the older vintages are for sale.
For further information, call Robert Channon Wines on (07) 4683 3260.
