THE Pirelli Southern Downs Road Race Series continued at Morgan Park Raceway, Warwick, at the weekend with round two hitting the track.
Competition heated up in all classes and events, grids were large and racers are focused, eager to prove themselves against strong and determined competition.
The club and state championship event attracted riders from all over Queensland with organisers proclaiming the event a success.
“Excellent event, the level of competition was very high,” media spokesman Simon Dickson said.
“The weather was ideal and the track stayed dry.”
He said in the Moto3, Tayla Relph was leading thanks to one first, three seconds and a fifth (she snapped a footpeg off and continued to ride) while Brian Houghton was holding second spot with three thirds and two second place finishes. Callum Barker broke the lap record and took four wins but suffered a mechanical issue and was unable to take part in a race, leaving him with third in the championship.
In the Formula 3, Joseph Salter was leading on his twin cylinder (Suzuki SV 650) taking five wins from five races.
Simon said the Southern Downs and Queensland Road Race Championship would return to Morgan Park raceway on 2 and 3 August where the Superbike, Supersport, 250/300 production and Sidecar classes will be fighting for Qld championship points.
“Before that, Morgan Park raceway plays host to the Masters of Morgan Park, incorporating the Qld Historic Championship and a round of the Bears National Challenge on 10 and 11 May,” he said.
