Six candles for market

By JOYCE MARSH, WOODENBONG CORRESPONDENT

HAPPY Sixth Birthday Woodenbong Yowie Country Market and Music Day.
The popular markets will celebrate their sixth birthday on 26 April at the Woodenbong Public Hall and grounds.
The market, routinely held on the last Saturday of every month from 8am-3pm, has heralded many memories and fun times for locals, visitors and tourists alike.
To celebrate a party theme is planned at this significant milestone date with balloon and lollie give aways, specials and discounts offered by stallholders.
Up up for grabs are two $20 and a $10 stall vouchers provided by Yowie Country Market Committee and donated gifts from Woodenbong Pharmacy.
Every purchase on any stall will entitle the shopper to a coupon which gives the chance of winning a voucher which can be redeemed at any time, at any market event, on any stall and any choice of product. The draw will take place at 1pm.
Woodenbong offers a country atmosphere, rural hospitality and beautiful mountain scenery enroute and the Woodenbong Public Hall and grounds is a great venue with amenities with wheelchair access and has a children’s playground on site.
The location allows for inside and outside stalls in an all-weather venue. A Yowie visits regularly which excites and amuses not only the children.
The live music is a great addition to the event and the public seating gazebos, tables and chairs for your convenience allows for a comfortable audience position.
Hot food and a great variety of stalls ensures there is something for everyone. Folk art, leatherwork, art and craft, embroidery, knitting and sewing home crafts, handmade jewellery, woodwork items, incense and burners, DVDs, books, plants, live birds, massage, bric-a-brac, Yowie souvenirs and more.
Features on the day are WAG (Woodenbong Arts Group) children’s painting and free face painting caters for smiles on many faces and demonstrations and workshops allows persons of any age to dabble in new art and craft styles.
This month is amazing artist Dallas Franklin doing air-brushing, spinning wheel and wools, kids’ jewellery making and wooden mobiles.
The monthly raffle of a “dinner for two” at the Woodenbong Hotel is always popular, and there have been 72 happy winners to date. Many thanks to Tony Neylon the Licensee.
Tickets are only $1 each for your chance to win. The birthday raffle is a handcrafted “timber box” lovingly recycled by Max Melville from silky oak retrieved from a Circa 1930’s homestead in the Killarney district. Tickets $2 each. Draws at 2pm.
The Woodenbong Yowie Country Market Community Committee would like to thank Kyogle Shire, all visitors and the stallholders who have supported the market events over this period and hope to see you return soon.
