The tradition continues

THUNDERING hooves will be heard around Killarney this weekend as more than 300 visitors arrive for the annual Killarney Polocrosse Carnival.
In a rural town with a population of less than 1000, this big influx of sports people is a boost for the economy.
Despite having no playing members, the Killarney Polocrosse Club continues with the tradition of their carnival each year.
During the height of club membership, there were five competing teams from A-Grade to Juniors and over 60 members.
“Today, the club committee members are very few, although the passion is still alive and the annual carnival is always on the calendar,” Killarney Polocrosse Club secretary Kerri-Ann Lamb said.
Ms Lamb said Killarney Polocrosse Club was keen to recruit new riding members and encouraged people to come along and have a look at their carnival this weekend.
The event will take place from 10-11 May at the Killarney Polo Cross Grounds, 1056 Willow Street.
Gates open at 8.30am both days, adult entry price is $12 each per day and under 16s are free.
