Southern Cross Bowls
TWO games of championship singles were played last Thursday. B. Cross d L. Marriott 26-1; Y. Reid d C. Sawyer 25-22. This was a very close game all the way through until the very last end. Social result: Q. Hamer, B. O’Brien d J. Roots, C. Hope 12-8.
Call-ups for today Thursday 8 May, at 1pm: D. Wheeler v M. Rampling; C. Hope v Y. Reid. There will be social bowls also.
Coming up this Saturday 10 May will be the Four Franks day starting at 1.30pm. Frank O’Mara, Frank Hankinson, Frank Heywood and Francis Lyons are looking forward to seeing everyone on the green and will certainly welcome any non-bowlers who would also like to come along for a game. Names in by 1pm please.
A reminder that Roddies Fish and Chips sponsored day will be on 24 May. Names can be put on the board for this event also.

Tenterfield Veteran Golfers
TUESDAY 20 May, 38 veterans teed off in an aggregate fourball event with good weather conditions prevailing. The winners were Denis Hull and Gordon Kay with a fine 81 points over runners-up Steve Holmes/Andrew Jackson on 77 points. Ball rundown to Graeme and Lorraine Moore 73; Garry Nicholls/ Mike Hurley 73 and John and June Augustson 73 on a countback. The pin shot on the 18th went to Ashley Harrison (246cm) and the captain’s draw to Ralph Weatherley.
2014 US Open at Pinehurst No 2
Veterans are invited to the 2014 US Open breakfast at the Tenterfield Golf Club on Monday 16 June. The club opens at 6am, breakfast from 7.30am Cost is $25 for breakfast and golf, or $15 for breakfast only. WARWICK EAST BOWLS
SATURDAY last, the club had one game of triples, results as follows N. Madsen, B. Ellery, D. Meneely d V. Smith, T. Jopson, M. Dodson 16-12, note T. Jopson, a visitor from Taree, paid us a visit for which we thank him. A team attended South Toowoomba for their two-day carnival, N. Wickham, G. Rumpy, V. Nelson and G. Shelley no results available at present. This team organised on the Friday night after a request from Souths.
Thursday 29 May is Red Rooster day, hope skips have your team available. Any player wishing to play and not in a team phone before noon Thursday.
Saturday 31 May, club pairs starts 1pm, be there 12.30pm for draw, one member nominated is playing in district mixed pairs so requires a replacement for the day.
Thursday 4 June, monthly open triples commencing 12.30pm, again skips organise your team to be ready. Visitors most welcome on these day.

Warwick Bowls
IT was a great week at the club commencing with the Kentucky Fried Chicken day last Wednesday when 36 players participated. It was pleasing that 10 of these players were ladies. Winners were Trish Collins, Wayne Tucker and Greg Dent. Runners-up were Keith Gimm, George Niven and Ian Campbell.
On Saturday in a semi-final game of the self-selected pairs, Doug Christensen (sub) and Tom Seaniger defeated Michael O’Leary and Peter Collis. Doug and Tom had a good start to lead 10-0 after four ends, then 17-3 after eleven, to go on to win 23-12 in the 20 ends played, winning 13 ends. The final of this competition will be played as soon as possible.
On Sunday, 26 players took part in the day with winners being Hewan Gibson, George Niven and Brian Black, and runners-up Keith Gimm, Sue Valentine and Barry Johnstone.
In coming events, social bowls will be played on Saturday and Sunday. In each of these events names are required by 12.30pm for play to commence at 1pm. Ladies and visitors are very welcome.
Nominations have been called for self-selected triples and will close on Saturday 7 June, with the draw and date of play advised then.
The games director would be pleased to see more nominations on the board for the open fours carnival on Sunday 22 June.
Members are reminded that more nominations are needed to fill the green for the jackpot pairs on 11 June when the winning prize is now $130.
All members have received a survey being conducted by the club and are asked to respond to each point so that the future direction of the club can be determined with all having a say in what approach we should be taking on a number of issues. Please place your response in the box provided at the clubhouse and attend the special meeting to be held on 11 June.
