THE Southern Downs took a tea break last week – all for a good cause.
Venues across the region took part in the “Biggest Morning Tea” in aid of the Cancer Council.
Wallangarra held its morning tea at the RSL Hall on Thursday raising $650. The morning included morning tea and was followed by light-hearted fun for those who fortunately did not have to return to work.
At Bunnings in Warwick, Rita McCalman organised the store’s third annual morning tea.
Rita, who lost her dad to cancer and a mum who survived breast cancer, said it was an event close to her heart.
She said the event raised more than $300 and hopefully events like this and the money raised would help find a much-needed cure.
Bunnings staff members baked goods for the event (and had a prize for the best baked goods as voted by the customers – Bec’s Melting Moments and Wagon Wheels).
Meanwhile, Stanthorpe’s Quart Pot Quilters have raised $1600 at their annual “Biggest Morning Tea” on 14 May at the Stanthorpe Baptist Church.
With just about 100 people in attendance, it was an extremely successful day for all who came along to enjoy all the home-made “goodies” supplied by our volunteers.
A colourful display of quilts and wall hangings by members also provided an interesting feature and a “rolling raffle” created some very happy winners.
The lucky door prize of a beautiful quilt was won by Debbie Bydder.
The sale table was another hit, with craft items donated by members ranging from cushions, table runners, tea cosies, coat hangers plus much more and work is already underway for more items next year.
