TENTERFIELD Wintersong carnival program wrapped up on the weekend after a week of celebration.
The week celebrates one of the town’s most famous sons Peter Allen while also looking to foster the artist talent of the future.
“A big round of applause is deserved for all who made the effort and gave their support,” organiser Gail Galloway said.
“I was particularly thrilled to see the great turn out from our Indigenous community – who led off the parade and the Elders who gave the welcome to country at the showground. They did us – and our town proud.”
President Leeanne Wells agrees and was pleased.
“It all went off really well,” Ms Wells said.
“When the townfolk get behind the spirit of this celebration – it supports our core aim of developing and mentoring young and emerging artists in our region.”
This year’s event also marked the opening of the revamped Streetscape – performed by Federal Member Barnaby Joyce along with State Member Adam Marshall and mayor Peter Petty.
Wintersong’s main purpose is to help mentor young people with talent who face the difficulties of small town resources. One of the original “graduates” of the event, Josh Moylan, is flying to New York for a song writing workshop with the legendary Steve Earle.
