ALLORA’S inaugural winter festival had a distinctly Mary Poppins feel when it made its debut on Saturday morning.
The town was abuzz with excitment as craft workshops, photography exhibitions and tree jumper decorating filled the halls and streets.
Allora Community Circle committee member Christine Gleeson said she was very pleased with the community’s involvement in the Meet the Makers demonstration by Allora artisans and hoped the event would continue to grow.
“We wanted to support the groups that were already involved in Jumpers and Jazz and expand the celebrations further into the shire just as Killarney has done,” she said.
“But we wanted it to be uniquely Allora and what we are trying to do is connect Allora with Mary Poppins.”
Helen Lyndon Goff, who began writing the mystical children’s series under the pseudonym P.L. Travers, spent two years of her childhood living in Allora before her banker father passed away and the family moved to Bowral, NSW.
Ms Gleeson said the weekend also co-incided with the 145th anniversary of the municipality of Allora on 21 July.
