THE 80 delegates who attended the Australian Local Government Women’s Association (ALGWA) Queensland conference at Warwick last week have walked away felling “renewed, refreshed and recharged”.
ALGWA Queensland president Jan Clifford said she was delighted with the conference and thanked Southern Downs Regional Council for hosting, in particular SDRC councillor JoMcNally for organising the event.
“Cr McNally and her small team put on an excellent conference that has ensured our delegates were challenged and given invaluable lessons – at times our speakers were somoving that we laughed and cried,” she said.
ALGWA provides a forum for women in local government to be heard and to further their career and leadership goals.
The conference speakers presented participants with a number of ideas to implement personally and professionally.
Cr McNally said the conference stimulated a lot of debate and certainly centred around the conference theme “Full, Frank and Fearless”.
“Our keynote speakers talked about their own fears and challenges and how they confronted them,” Cr McNally said.
“This of course means that you can move forward to achieve more.”
Other topics over the three-day event included `unlocking the pay divide’, `mayors’ powers’, `workplace safety initiatives’ and a presentation about the Rose City’s very own quirky festival Jumpers and Jazz in July.
