TENTERFIELD officially welcomed its newest Australian citizen to the region late last month with an affirmation ceremony at Tenterfield Shire Council.
Carolina Munoz pledged her loyalty to Australia in front of mayor Peter Petty and councillors at the council’s general meeting on 23 July before taking part in a touching rendition of the national anthem.
Dr Munoz, who hails from Columbia, spent a number of years in Sydney before moving to Tenterfield in June last year where she works as a general practitioner (GP) at the local medical centre.
Although she misses her family and parts of her culture, Dr Munoz said she loved her new home for the opportunities and safety it provided.
“Tenterfield is a good place for working, it’s very quiet, you don’t have too much traffic and the people are very nice,” she said.
“In general, Australians are really accepting and easy-going people to be with.”
