TAFE opens its doors

MEMBERS of the public are invited to attend an information session about the future of TAFE in Warwick as the institute officially opens its new learning centre tomorrow evening.
Originally set down for Town Hall, the seminar has been moved to the Dragon Street campus to allow interested groups and individuals to see the new space and how it will be used.
A Warwick Business Chamber breakfast meeting in June heard Queensland TAFE faces unprecedented competition and significant funding changes across the sector in the wake of its establishment as an independent statutory body.
The purpose-built “drop in space” features contemporary furniture designed to allow students to undertake self-directed learning, meet classmates to discuss group work and talk to teaching staff about course content.
TAFE Queensland South West general manager Trevor Schwenke said the redesign of student learning and support spaces meant Warwick TAFE students would have access to enhanced learning resources and equipment and student support services, all in the one building.
“Aside from the bank of new computers and working spaces there is also a new customer service environment which has allowed for centralisation of student inquiry and support services in a single location,” Mr Schwenke said.
“We’ve undertaken additional work to relocate visitor parking immediately outside the learning centre, creating a convenient and easily accessible location for current and future students alike.”
The staff administration area has been relocated and several teaching spaces now have interactive smartboards, meaning teachers can make use of contemporary teaching tools to present course content.
The official opening of the new learning centre and information session will be held tomorrow from 5pm.
