Warwick Bowls Club
NOT much to report this week with no bowls on Saturday because of the rain, but it was welcome.
The competition games named last week will now be played on or before next Saturday.

A cool still morning with very little wind and bright sunlight, almost spring.

Tenterfield Veteran Golf
THE Hugh O’Reilly Memorial Shield was played on Tuesday 12 August, attracting a great field of 44 players. Rob Murphy’s 44 points on the day secured the win, with his name to be engraved on the shield. Runner-up was Ruby Gale 41 – well played Rob and Ruby. Tim and David O’Reilly travelled from Brisbane to play and present the shield. The ball run down to Brian Curry and Karen Manser 40; Richard Acland, Michael Hurley and David O’ Reilly 39; Diane Benson, Jenny Meagher and Julie Gale 38; and Ron Johnson 37 on a countback. Best front nine: John Augustson 21. Best back nine: Peter Brown 20. NTP: 18th Peter Brown (138cm). Mystery hole: 17th all square with four points. Captains draw went to Ian Wade.
The Tenterfield Veteran Golfers AGM will be held on the 26 August, at 10am. The Inverell open day is on 26 August – nominations to (02) 6722 1574. The Moree open day will be played on 1 September. Southern Cross Bowls
THE Gladfield boys bowls day which was scheduled for last Saturday, unfortunately had to be postponed to a later date due to the inclement weather. Coming up this Saturday 23 August, the afternoon will be sponsored by Hynes Newsagency. Social bowlers are very welcome to come along and play, so names in by 1pm please for a 1.30pm start.
On Sunday 24 August, the day begins with the men’s and ladies annual meetings at 9.30am followed by the combined annual general meeting at 11am. It would be appreciated if all members could attend the AGM as there are still many positions to be filled. A reminder that you have to be financial to hold a position. There will be a sausage sizzle for lunch followed by bowls sponsored by the management committee at 1pm.
Names can be taken now for the men’s pennants which will be played at the Warwick club on 30-31 August. There will be no bowls at the Cross that weekend.

It was a little quiet at the club last Thursday with a lot of our ladies away, so one game of New Guinea pairs was enjoyed with G. Penn, C. Hope d L. Heywood, Y. Reid 19-18. There will be social bowls today Thursday 21 August, at 1pm.

Warwick East Bowls
TUESDAY last, the Ladies section assisted the club for Patron Norm and Patroness Patty day which was a successful morning of bowls with members and visitors playing. Results were as follows: B. Gibson, along with prizes drawn from the remaining players. The club would like to thank both Norm and Patty for sponsoring this day each year.
Last Saturday’s club triples was a washout, but rain was needed, so they will be played this coming weekend, teams be ready to play 1pm. Social bowls also available, names in by 12.30pm for 1pm. Hopefully the final will be played the next day.
On Wednesday 27 August, our member are requested to be at Queens park, opposite Bunnings, by noon in uniform. HELLOWORLD Travel Warwick, and AAT have arranged a bus converted to a indoor bowls rink, believed to be the world’s first, to assist the public on playing the game of bowls. Should be an interesting outing and maybe some new bowlers could eventuate from this day.
