Festive charity summit

Preparing for the Budburst Festival.

LOCAL businesses on the Granite Belt have come together to support the Summit Budburst Festival aimed at raising money for local charities and community organisations.
The festival kicks off at 11am this Saturday 27 September on the grounds of the Summit Estate Winery and includes live music, food stalls, a market marquee and something for the kids – pony rides and a bouncy castle.
Organiser Glen McMahon, from Summit Backpackers, said they had had a great response with local businesses providing much-needed resources.
“Granite Belt Fruit Freighters will provide a semitrailer as a stage for the funk/soul band LS Philosophy to perform on,” he said.
“Other businesses who have helped out are Hire Solutions in Warwick, Kent Saddlery, Granite Belt Brewery (yes you will be able to sample their delicious beer), Betterway to Print and Stanthorpe Real Estate. “
However, Glen said volunteers were still needed to help set up the festival site on Friday, and the first 10 volunteers will be given free entry to the festival, which would be $15 on the gate for adults.
“Also, if any community groups are interested in being involved, then get in contact – all help welcome and you can keep your own profits for your group,” he said.
Raffle prizes have been donated by Elders, Chris’s CBT, Landmark, Favero Motors, Outrite Computers and Gaming, Stanthorpe Therapeutic Centre and the Stanthorpe Caltex Starmart. Co-event organiser, Samantha Gray from Summit Estate Wines, said they were going out on a bit of a limb organising this event for the first time, but the response has been amazing.
“Even the owners of Summit Estate Wines have organised working bees to spruce up the vineyard for the event,” she said.
“And yes, the buds have started bursting.”
Other festival highlights will be the mini market marquee, where a dozen local stalls will set up to sell their hand-made wares, such as candles, glass art, wooden signs and jewellery.
Food will be available all afternoon with Chef Sudha’s delicious curries, a traditional food van with homemade pies, sausages rolls and burgers. There will be a sausage sizzle plus cheese platters available at the counter inside the winery.
Of course there will be wine for sale by the glass, plus beer and soft drinks and the gorgeous coffee from Cosmo cafe. For the sweeter tooth, there is an ice cream van and Colombo’s sweet treat van.
