AS THE Rose City’s big cousin nears the end of its Carnival of Flowers extravaganza, it’s time to turn our attention to all things gardening closer to home.
The Warwick Horticultural Society’s annual Spring Flower Festival is only a week-and-a-half away, beginning on 6 October with the first day of garden competition judging.
Now in its 106th year, the iconic event will be held across three weeks, with the spring flower show taking place on 15 and 16 October and the floral window competition, where businesses adorn their windows with colourful spring fair, being judged on 24 October.
Vice-president Shirley Olive encouraged budding gardeners to don their gloves and get pruning.
“Everyone is encouraged to bring something along,” she said of the flower show.
“You don’t have to be a member…and it doesn’t cost anything to enter.”
The avid gardener and retired registered nurse said those thinking of exhibiting in the garden and floral window competitions should grab an entry form, while those wishing to enter the flower show can just turn up with their exhibits between 8am and 10am sharp on 15 October.
Presentations of trophies for the flower show and garden winners will take place at St Mary’s Hall at 4pm on 16 October.
Morning and afternoon teas plus a light lunch will also be available each day at the flower show, she said.
Entry forms and show schedules are available at Enchanted Gardens, Baringa Nursery, Southern Downs Garden Centre and Brysons Place or by phoning 4661 1414.
The Horticultural Society meets on the last Wednesday of every month at 8pm at the CWA rooms on Grafton Street. Everyone is welcome.
