Criterion for valued meals

The beautiful historic Criterion Hotel.

GOOD food, comfortable accommodation and a colourful history – the Criterion Hotel, Warwick has it all.
The hotel employs up to 20 staff at any given time and offers two bars, 35 state of the art poker machines, two Keno terminals, 25 comfortable accommodation rooms, a pool table and jukebox as well as bottle shops, food and a whole lot of atmosphere.
It is the perfect place for a spot of indoor dining with a range of delicious and wholesome pub meals created by their home-style cooks.
And of course there are private function rooms for hire – some of Warwick’s best-kept secrets!
In fact the Criterion boasts two wonderfully private and well-equipped function rooms – The Ballroom and Allman Rooms – seating up to 75 guests or for a more informal cocktail party between 90-110 people.
Both are the perfect place for everything from a book launch, to a conference, that special birthday or your memorable dream wedding.
But what really makes the Criterion stand out besides its great location is its charismatic history as a hotel, dating as far back as 1867.
In fact in March of 1994, the hotel became a place of cultural significance and was rightfully placed on the heritage list.
The impressive main bar is created from beautiful silky oak with a curved central bay featuring mirrored shelving. Needless to say, workmanship like this is seldom seen in modern times.
The light from the beautiful leaded windows gives the feeling of a bygone age and the pressed metal ceilings are another stunning highlight of the character-filled building.
There is some dispute whether the six faces looking down are of the Virgin Mary or cherubs watching over the blessed patrons. Maybe you can decide? The historic hotel retains a substantial number of its original features, including the majestic main staircase.
In the 1940s, the main bar was reminiscent of a scene straight out of a western, when the ceiling was pierced by three shots from the rifle of a returned serviceman – luckily there was no-one upstairs! But, from then on, it has been known as ‘The Three Bullet Bar’. The bullet holes remain today!
And if you stay at the Criterion you can explore the wonderful historical wine regions of Warwick and Stanthorpe, then settle down in a friendly and relaxing atmosphere.
The hotel offers comfortable hotel-style accommodation with modern facilities and parking in the heart of Warwick.
And lots of Criterion meal deals – nightly from 6pm.
