It never rains but it pours

WHAT a difference a week makes.
Prayers for rain have been answered in some part of the region as storms brought heavy falls over the past week.
Puddles hug the roadside as you enter Warwick and Allora and once dry and barren paddocks glimmer with green.
Tuesday afternoon saw another storm cell hover over the district, bucketing 60mm over Warwick, 56mm over Yangan and a whopping 76mm over Emu Vale in less than 24 hours.
As with many storms, though, it was hit and miss, and other parched areas where left wanting.
Sadly, the region’s critical catchment areas fall into that category, with Leslie Dam and Storm King Dam recording a meager 0.4mm and 1mm respectively.
President of the Sunflower Society Kevin Charlesworth welcomed the rain, saying it would not deter this year’s crops.
“No, it will be wonderful for them,” the farmer, who is based west of Clifton, said.
“As long as they haven’t dropped their petals and are not in mid-flower there won’t be a problem – the storms have been a fantastic. We need a bonus.”
Hope for those who have missed out is still on the horizon, with a 50 to 90 per cent chance of rain forecast until Saturday.
